Description
I have chosen e-bay to sell this, because as a one-time artist, with this single piece, art galleries won't accept me. This unique, one-of-a-kind, hand crafted, ergonomically correct, United States of America Dragone Throne, is carved from a 6 1/2 foot tall x 5 foot wide butte-end of a Chinese- Elm. This was aquired, from Groveland MA .The dimensions are 17 1/4 x 17 1/4 x 38 inches. The base is Redwood from Durham CA. It measures 18 x 18 x 3 1/2 inches and is fitted not glued. Both pieces together ,weigh approximately 65 lbs. This piece, as a sculpture, is both level and square, in every way, and 99 % perfect as a functional chair. This, to the best of my knowledge, is the only piece of furniture, {in reference to a dragon chair} to have been fully carved, from one block of wood. If anyone has knowledge of such a piece, I would welcome the input ! ! ! About the Artist/Craftsman; My fathers, last name, from Portland ME. was Dragon. Whether you choose to believe this or not, I didn't choose to create this. It chose, to make me, create it. My first recollection, of any type of dragon chair, was in an Oriental Restaurant, a replica, of some ancient dynasty. I pondered over the thought, as a 10 year old, of creating one in The United States: I went about my life, and in an instant I was, at the age of 28, directed to craft my ergonomically correct Dragone Throne! My first attempt was in my home town, I failed. I then moved to CA. to try again. I failed. I returned to MA and tried again, being swept into lifes conditioning and trials, I failed yet again. Now, almost questioning my own existence, and destiny, I no longer had a yearning for my own life, but a profound outlook on the future, that I had no option, I had to continue with the painful failures, and social ostrization . My forth attempt, began in 2002, when 10,000 dollars was deposited, anonymously into my account. I began carving on Nov. 21 2002 and completed this recently. Aug 29, 2008., still under a great deal of social stress. The Relevance; As I have mentioned above, I was influenced in the beginning, by a replica from the Orient. My fascination and curiosity, found a few pieces of dragon furniture from Europe, as well as dragon chairs, as well as the dragon chairs of the Dynastys' of the Orient. I have found to the best of my knowledge, the oldest dragon chair, from India dated 4500 b.c. But never, has one been carved, from one solid block, into an ergonomically correct Dragone Throne. Royalty; So for those of you, that recently won millions in a lottery, or to those of you, that know how history influences the future, or to those, that contemplate, the possibilities of the imagination, this should become your prized possession. What better way to begin you own Dynasty' ! I thank you for your time, your patience, and your interest.
